The More I do Less

I may have stumbled upon something I’ve known all along…at least since I started writing on this site 6 (SIX!) years ago. I mean, if I did a search on “social media sucks the life out of you,” I’m sure I’d get a hit or two somewhere. Why? Because I know that. We all do.

And the evidence is right here. Just look over there on the left side of the page (on a desktop computer — on a phone you probably have to scroll to the bottom). Take a look at the “Archives” menu. Back then, I was posting 30+ times a month. Then in 2022 it tapered off to the teens. That turned into single digits by 2024 (still…not too bad I suppose). But out of nowhere I missed the entire month of August that year. Must’ve been on vacation. If I was, I didn’t write about it…

And I didn’t write about any vacations in October either, apparently.

Not to worry though…I picked it up again after that. Until the next August (what’s up with August?).

Then 2026 happened. Oh my. We’re seven months in, and I haven’t written in four of them (February through May). Still, I’ve been working through some things, right? I mean, just look at my last post. I’ve been getting healthy.

Nah. Who am I kidding? I’ve just been lazy. And that especially loops me around to my first paragraph. I’ve fallen into the trap of scrolling through X and trying to justify it by saying, “I’m educating myself.” And I must admit, I’m not that bad when it comes to curation. I really do lean toward the educational and newsworthy. But still, there’s always something…and that something is usually at the end of a rabbit trail started by someone you follow posting someone you don’t.

So, yeah. I’ve been lazy…and I’ve broken one of my biggest rules: Stay the frick away from social media!

It was coming to that realization that made me remember how this blog was such a big help. It kept me thinking. It kept me searching (but in better places than X and Facebook). It kept me observing real life and writing about what I saw. It occupied me and made me [I think] better…somewhere. It certainly worked as an outlet that passed my time and relaxed me. Of course the more I do it the less I’m twiddling away my time on frivolity. I can’t help it. Throw in some reading, and I’m coming out way ahead.

So, I hope you get to see more of me (if you’re so inclined) in the future. I’m not committing to my “post a day for a year” — something I did for more than a year when I was first getting my feet under me here. But who knows? If I get back into the swing of it, maybe I’ll be able to put something out there that has a little bite to it. Let’s see where this goes…

As an aside: I’m taking requests if anyone has any ideas…
