Funny story here: I used to teach a Bible study to Korean Airmen, Soldiers, and dependents at the Korean chapel on Osan Air Base, and I met some absolutely incredible people. They’re all quite special to me, and we had such a wonderful time in my 12 years there. But the thing about the Korean military: you meet men from all over who are doing their time — those two or so years they have to serve. And their stories are interesting. Most all of them spoke English to some degree, and some probably came just to be able to practice more (and I didn’t mind in the slightest). Some spoke other languages quite well — I know at least one who lived in Spain for a time as he was growing up.
And then there are the ones of hidden talents — at least to me — like David Chun. It wasn’t until his last day with us that I found out he was actually known in broader circles as an accomplished guitarist, even to the point of performing on stage with Tommy Emanuel (recognized as one of the greatest acoustic guitarists in the world).
But he was just “David” to me, and one of his videos popped up in my YouTube for some reason, and of course it couldn’t help but remind me of him and all of those I had the pleasure of knowing and teaching over the years.
Have a nice Monday…
[note: he somewhat explains his looking at the camera in the video comments.]
