As usual, whenever I consider staying home because I’m just not “feeling up to it,” a great ride cures me.
Yesterday morning I was feeling kind of “blah,” so I honestly thought about staying home to “recover” a bit. You know, maybe sleep in a bit (a near impossibility for me anyway), rest up, and live to conquer another day.
I’ve been around long enough though to know that this is a load of crap. Not only will I regret it later (after I’ve seen the rides my friends have done that day on Strava), I know it just won’t do the job for me. It’s so much better to get out on the road and into the fresh air and scenery that does my body and mind good. Nine times out of ten, it works out this way.
So I got out, and of course I loved it. We didn’t go far, and covered a lot of area I’ve been before, but we took a couple of shortcuts and side roads that I’d neglected in the past, and on one of them almost immediately found an interesting historical site. I love it when these things happen because it gives me the satisfaction of knowing I’m experiencing a part of life in which so many others fail. My thing is seeing new things. Sure, there are times when it works just to get out, but it’s always a bonus to experience something that so many others have never seen before.
