Saturday 63: Climb after Climb

It doesn’t matter how I feel about them, one day or another, I’ll need to have to get up some hills. But this early in the year? I don’t know. I must be a glutton for punishment.

I don’t normally struggle for places to go on the weekends. It usually starts with a look at the weather, and if the wind speed is expected to get high enough during the ride, I’ll head into it on the way out so it pushes me home on the way back. But this past week I guess I was distracted by other things, so I just couldn’t come up with anything. In the end, I threw together a couple of routes going to the southeast, and, since the hills in that area are quite beautiful, we decided to climb.

Just as I worried that I would struggle with a 70-mile ride last weekend, I thought that maybe too much climbing this early in the year would be tough. But in the end, just like the ride to Lotte Tower, I managed. And knocked out March’s 100k in the bargain.

I’m sure I’ll sleep well tonight…

Albert’s shot of Joon and I on the way out. Migratory geese filled the air this morning.
We’ll be heading for a gap to the right of that distant mountain.
A mountain lake on the way up the first climb.
Smokey valley on the way down…
First break.
And a break after the break.
Beautiful little village as we came out of some hills.
Leaving the province.
View from the top of the second climb. We’ve got to go down now.
And so we go down. It was a fun descent.
Anseong is known for its traditional dance.
The 3.1 Memorial at the top of the last big climb of the day.
Albert is about to head the other way. He’ll do about 7 more miles than us today.
Spring is almost here…and we are almost home.
