Lazy Days

It seems as I get older…much older…the focus of my days change. I feel like I’m not good with going off and doing things so much anymore (outside of biking), and when asked to make some long-run commitment to something, I might just be hesitant. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be starting out. Starting a family. Getting a home. These are things my kids are doing right now, and even that, later than when I did it. I guess I’m just settling into the life of a grandpa.

I know others who started that life much sooner. My best friend had been a grandpa for nearly twenty years, and he just finished his doctorate degree. Me, I’m thinking I’m just about done with doing anything at all. COVID probably didn’t help either. We all got kind of used to not going anywhere for a while. Even if the day-to-day restrictions are all pretty much gone now, there are still the occasional reminders. Sarah needs to get a PCR test before flying back to Japan in a couple of days. A lot of people are still wearing masks…although Koreans in the winter wore a lot of masks before COVID. Stuff like that.

Today’s been one of those kinds of days that isn’t helping. Church this morning, Micha and Sarah off to the bath-house for a mommy-daughter scrubbing. Then a good lunch, after which we all settled down for a nap (I read a bit, but couldn’t keep my eyes open). Now the dog is looking out the window at the apartment’s courtyard with it’s fresh, thin layer of wet snow; the TV’s off; and I’ve got the place to myself for a bit while the others sleep. Just right for a cup of coffee and a bit of rambling on the keyboard.

Something tells me I should be out there having a nice walk. Maybe run over to the two Starbucks over by the old city hall to see if they have any of those “Year of the Rabbit” mugs Sarah’s been looking for. But then again, I’m not much for doing much of anything right now. Gotta feed the dog. Might just go back to reading. Finish this piece up, but only because I’ve been slacking off quite a bit lately. That kind of stuff. Can’t think of much else.

These are indeed lazy days…
