Beautiful Dreary Monday Morning

I didn’t listen to my typical podcasts for the morning commute (which, by the way, was in a car for the first time in a while). I just put on some music to go along with the rainy Monday morning we were having. I’d earlier listened to Kings Kaleidoscope’s Zeal, and the music continued as a station of like music after the album was done.

And the music really matched the day. The drizzle and gloom of the rain had me thinking of one of my favorite memories — sitting in a Pacific Grove coffee shop on a Monterey autumn day; a chill in the outside air; a light, occasional drizzle. And there I was, the only customer that early morning (having taken the day off), sitting on a sofa in front of the fire (yes, they had a fireplace), reading Edgar Snow’s Red Star Over China and thoroughly enjoying myself. Just thinking about it now relaxes me.

So this morning’s music brought a bit of that back. Just so smooth and comfortable, begging for a fireplace and a sofa and a good book. I wouldn’t want to leave.

Maybe it’ll bring something back for you too…
