I’m feeling better than I was last week after the Saturday 70, and this after doing over 81 miles today. Although we were on the road and riding for about six and a half hours, the total time we were out was about eight. This lead to the joke, “remember that time…?” There are days when you’re out on the road so long, the things you saw and did earlier in the ride seem like a distant memory.
Today included about 4,000 feet of climbing too. A few longer hills, and one monster that we’ve christened “Heartbreaker, Too,” another of those trick hills where you come around a corner and see the top and it turns out there are two more switchbacks before you get to it. Heartbreaking.
But a fantastic day. Saw some history — the birthplace of one of Korea’s more famous patriots of the March 1st movement, Yoo Gwansoon. It was just over 40 miles into the ride, and right outside of Byeongcheon, which is famous for its Sundae (blood sausage) and a place which Micha and I visit a couple of times a year. Next time we go down for Sundae, I’ll be sure to swing by the memorial hall and poke around a bit.
