A Good Canadian

Canada has given the world some wonderful things. Corner Gas, one of the greatest shows on television (not just in the naughts, but of all time), for example. And hockey.

And music too. Plenty of good names on the list of good Canadian musicians.

But one leaves the rest in the dust.

Just about anyone who lived through the 60s and 70s and listened to popular music of the time would know Gordon Lightfoot. He was prolific in his writing, and so much of what he wrote was incredible music. He was a major influence of the folk scene at the time, and his music continues to be a staple in listeners’ libraries.

There’s something about Gordon Lightfoot for me. Memories that his songs bring back. They’re certainly relaxing. Today I stumbled upon some of his stuff on YouTube, so I pulled a couple of things that I liked for you tonight. I especially liked the Rick Beato piece (“What Makes This Song Great”). I really recommend you watch it. He does such a good job of breaking down a song and helping you appreciate it even more.

And to finish it off, I included one of my favorite songs.
