On my Own

Today was Joon’s wedding anniversary, so he decided it was a better idea to spend it with his wife than with me on the open road.

I guess. I can’t blame him, really. But he missed a great ride. Decent air, decent temperature, wind not too bad…although it was there.

So I started just after 10, having planned a loop up to Yongin (to the north/northeast). I love the area, and with the weather as it’s been (winds primarily out of the west), I hadn’t been up that way in a while. But when I walked out the door, it turns out I was reading the weather report all wrong — the winds were from the exact opposite direction. So I immediately changed plans and went that way, heading south first to Pyeongtaek, then deciding to continue to Songhwan. From there, I turned west to Dunpo and grabbed a quick lunch (CUs have been a bit disappointing lately — no good pastries, so I had to settle on a sandwich and chips with a small cup of coffee).

Egg, potato, and bacon sandwich. Convenience store sandwiches are always pretty good, but I was still hoping for a good cream bread.

After Dunpo, I headed further west, where I had to decide whether to cross the river or loop over the top of Camp Humphreys (I crossed the river). Then a turn north to head for home.

It was all pretty random, but that’s sometimes the way I like it. And I was on my own, so I turned on Alistair Begg’s Truth for Life podcast and listened to several episodes for the whole trip (I love Begg and recommend him to the utmost. Listen to him for the Scottish accent if anything).

Another excellent day in the books. And now, having waited through their afternoon break time (3-5), it’s off to our favorite Kimchi Jiggae restaurant, Duoz.

Kind of overcast today
I’ve been this way before, but because the construction is new, this is the first time I was able to see this tree. Unfortunately, there’s no way to get to it now. But at least, they’re protecting it.
The road past the National Ag Center
A bit of a hazard.
The bullet train heading for Seoul
The day’s reward. Not Jiggae, but still most excellent.
