A typical December Saturday now — about half of what I was doing in the summer, but still rewarding. I think to some extent I had to actually train myself to do less now that it’s gotten colder. Mission accomplished there.
Today’s ride aimed at a tree that I finally found alongside the highway. I knew it was in the area — I saw it on a spreadsheet of the country’s trees, and the addresses provided were not always on target — so when I drove by it a week or so ago, I decided to bike over and take a look. I’d guessed it was a P’aeng Namu (a Hackberry), and I was right. I haven’t seen one of those for a while, but the knobby trunk gave it away.

Then I found another protected tree (a Zelkova) that caught my eye down a side road as I passed. It’s been a while since I’ve found new trees like this, but it’s always fun when I do.

One other treat for the day — we had a third rider. Lisa was back out on the road with us. She’s always game for a good ride, but it’s been a while. Today was her first weekend ride with us under 70 miles.
