Today had its moments. Things like the Brewers beating the Giants two straight. Seeing old friends. Eating 설빙 (I’ll have to write a whole post on that someday).
Of course this all leaves me tired out and bumping up against bed time, and all I can think to write today are a couple of random thoughts.
One of the highlights of the day was when I finally figured out that the charging port on my antique iPod Nano was filthy. I’ve spent the past couple of months wiggling the plug and jamming it in every way I could just to get it to sync and charge before I finally looked into it and saw all of the gunk.
A good scrubbing out with the end of a toothpick and some compressed air and it’s as good as…well, probably as good as a however-year-old (I can’t even remember when I bought it) piece of electronic equipment is gonna be. And that’ll do. I thought it was on its last legs, and I was kind of sad about it. Why? Because it’s ridiculous using your phone to play music, especially when you’re on a ride. I use the phone for pictures and navigation. I don’t need to plug in an earbud or run some bluetooth on it. Plus I’ve never found a good substitute for iTunes when it came to managing my music. Music that I bought or moved over from a CD (another ancient piece of history) and put exactly where I wanted it.
So I feel like I’ve got a new toy, even though it’s old and it’s been with me for as long as I can remember.

And speaking of modern technology, I think I’ve discovered the most useless and asinine feature a phone could ever have — a warning dialogue that tells you “You just used Quick Launch to open the Camera.” Thing is, the whole purpose behind using Quick Launch is so that you can take a photo quickly. It’s not called “Take an extra moment to close this dialog box before you can take the picture Launch.” Maybe it should be. I’ve lost the opportunity to take several shots as I’m riding because of this “feature.”

I’ve looked into it and there’s speculation that it might have something to do with darkness. That perhaps it pops up when the camera is quick-launched by accident in your purse or your pocket. It almost makes sense, because I’m quick-launching before sunrise in many cases. But does a tree falling in the woods make a sound if there’s no one to hear it? Does a camera getting launched in your pocket need a dialog box if there’s no one to read it? It truly is a useless function.
And to complete the randomness of the day…
Came home to find friends Went and got stuffed at 설빙 Too full to sleep now
