No Plan

It was kind of an odd weekend. I knew it was going to rain on Saturday, so I made no plans to hit the road…and the weather reports were spot on. Rainy most of the day through the mid-afternoon.

But this morning’s report showed less than 20% chance, so Joon and I decided to set out at 0430 and see what we could do.

Now, Sundays are usually our day to rest up a bit. We ride on Saturday morning — a good 70 and then some — and then Sunday morning Joon is usually on his way to brunch around 10 and I’m not far behind. I usually attend the 8am service at church. Even in the times when we were on-line though, I knew I could come back and watch if I missed anything.

But if I’m going to ride on Sundays for whatever reason, I’ll go to the 5pm service. It mixes things up a little, and I enjoy the crowd immensely — a lot of my favorite people go at 5.

Today, unfortunately, because of some precautions at the church, we did it on-line. Knowing that it was going to be at 10, and knowing that Joon liked to head out for brunch about then, we shortened our typical distance. With no plan at all (but to maybe start out into the wind), we thought we’d just wander around until we hit 100km, and, thanks to my navigation skills, we got home at 100.7. I mean, at the 40-mile mark, I’m making a right instead of going straight because I know I’m going to need about 2 more miles that I won’t get by going straight. It really pays to know your distances.

We pulled in at 0939. I was showered and ready for church by 10. It was a day of good timings all around. And a beautiful morning to ride…
