Doing Well

Had my typical wonderful morning ride today. Another one of those where I wasn’t sure where I was going, but hitting the road anyway. And this time, rather than turn right, I went straight. Ended up in the same place I’d planned to pass a few miles down the road, but did a little more work to get there. Different scenery. Good result.

I remember the days when a 100kim ride was quite the accomplishment, but would certainly leave me wiped for a few days after. I did 115 on Saturday and was feeing great this morning. I’m fairly certain it’s the weight loss that’s helping the most. I mean, yeah, I’m in the best shape I’ve been in quite some time (like, maybe my entire adult life?), but not having to lug a 30 pound spare tire around my gut is helping. And maybe not just weight-wise, but how I fit on the bike. I’m able to move better.

My thinking on this is also influenced in part by the video I watched yesterday of a rider who owns over 2,000 KOMs (King of the Mountain — the person that rides a particular segment uphill the quickest) on Strava. Not only is his bike only 6kg loaded (a little over 13 pounds), he himself only weighs about 115 pounds! I’m not getting that low for sure, but I am coming up on my target weight and I’ve got to figure out what to do when I get there. One thing for sure — I’ll keep on riding. Keep on climbing. And maybe I can set my own records.

And as an added bonus…
