A long day, with two medical appointments separated by 5 hours up in Seoul had me looking for things to do within range of the Samsung Medical Center, and much to my pleasure, I found something interesting just a short walk away — royal tombs from the 15th century and later.
It was a beautiful day for a walk too, with clear air and a warm breeze. After wandering around the hospital for a while, I headed out to the tombs. The featured burial there was the fifth son of King Sejong, the inventor of the Korean alphabet and perhaps Korea’s most revered ruler. His statue figures prominently in central Seoul (not far from the US embassy).

The tombs I visited today were a beautiful oasis in the middle of the Gangnam district. If it weren’t for the weedeating, it would have been wonderfully quiet. As it was, the further I got from the gardening, the more I heard the songs of so many birds. I certainly took my time, walking around the hillsides. Not quite hot enough to work up a good sweat, so that was a bonus.

After my time at the tombs, I walked the rest of the way around the block (about 3 miles total I’d say), and went for a bit to eat. Had a great bowl of 물냉면 for lunch. Saw a couple of interesting things along the way.

It was a long day, but certainly not dull. I’d written before about how much I like the Korean medical system. It was more of that. But today I also had to go out to a pharmacy outside of the hospital to get my medicine. Another interesting adventure…
