Article: The Wasting of the Evangelical Mind

I found in the New Yorker a good article about something in which I am quite interested — the turn from intellectual pursuits by the church, most particularly in the evangelical vein.

Christians founded great universities and did great things in pursuit of understanding the universe that God created. I believe there is no reason to stop now, thinking rather that knowledge of the world is a danger to faith. It is better to have confidence that discovery will help us better see God’s glory than to think it disproves him. Where is the Christian confidence in their God if they think finding things out will destroy him.

It won’t. And we need to take knowledge back. Enough of this ignorance. It breeds a contempt for truth, and truth ultimately honors God. We’ve all seen what ignorance brings us: idiots storming the Capitol building in Jesus’s name.

The article is good. Read it. Think about it.
