Recommendation: White Horse Inn

White Horse Inn Hosts Shane Rosenthal and Professor Mike Horton

I remember early in my Christian life stumbling upon a radio show called “the White Horse Inn.” This had to be nearly 20 years ago. It was on Saturdays where I was (probably San Antonio at the time), and I’d listen pretty much any chance I got. Then I discovered the podcast and have listened irregularly ever since. I say “irregularly” because it’s one of those podcasts that really catches a mood for me — when I’m “in the zone” for that kind of thing. When that happens, it’s usually a marathon for a couple of days catching up on a few months’ worth of shows.

For a bit of background, here’s an excerpt from their website: “Launched in 1990, the White Horse Inn is a listener-supported radio show and podcast named after a pub in Cambridge, England, where the Reformation came to the English-speaking world. This weekly show features regular round-table discussions on faith, culture, and apologetics. Founder and Editor-in-Chief Michael Horton and Producer and Host Shane Rosenthal aim each week to equip Christians to ‘know what they believe and why they believe it.’”

You can tell from the tag line that it’s serious business. It’s something by which I stand, and it’s something I ask of anyone else who wants to talk to me about their own personal beliefs. “Know what you believe and why you believe it.” Don’t accept things blindly. You should be able to defend your position. And you should know that I’m more than happy to point the finger right at those in the “Christian” church who can espouse their beliefs but are unable to square them with what the true faith of the Bible actually teaches — as long as I’m ready to examine my own beliefs.

I’ve listened to countless episodes of this show, and I recommend anyone, not just my Christian friends, to dig into it and give it an honest listen. You’ll find plenty of fascinating information, and, as usual, if it raises any questions or gives you a desire for thoughtful debate, hit me up and I’ll be glad to talk to you about it.

You can find them at https://whitehorseinn.org/, or look up their podcast on iTunes, Google Play, or whatever you use.
