It seems like my fellow tree-hunter Eric has stumbled upon a monster. It’s a Gingko that’s about 100km from my place that we’ve named the “Wonju Monster.”
Knowing that there are other stories up in the area that we hadn’t gotten to yet, I got the idea to drive up to Yi-ch’eon and have him train over from Seoul to meet up for a good 120km ride that’ll hit 10 stories, the Wonju Monster, and bonuses of hitting the birthplace of Korea’s last queen and the tomb of perhaps Korea’s most famous king, Saejeong, the inventor of the Korean alphabet (his statue sits behind Admiral Yi Sunshin’s not far from the American Embassy in Seoul).
There are a couple of good hills on the route I’ve mapped out – about 6,100 feet of climbing – but if I take it easy, I might actually enjoy myself. It’ll take a while to get up them though. The whole adventure’s got me something to which I can look forward for sure.
The tree is a monster, but the route even more so…
