It’s been a while since I’ve put up anything on my rides, but it’s about time I give it more work. Especially since it was such a pleasant ride — a “D2R,” or “Drive to Ride” — that took us into the beautiful countryside to the southwest of where I normally ride.
Of course, this means an early start to the day, leaving home around 0430 so we can get started by 0530. It’s not unbearable, but it’s starting to get warmer later in the rides too, when the sun is out and beating on your back. Still, it’s well worth it to be out when the sun is just coming up. Especially when they’re putting in the rice and the paddies are filled but unplanted.
As usual too, I planned a little bit of history into the ride with a couple of old fortresses and birthplace monuments. PLus a couple of unplanned obstacles. It was definitely fun (although I can’t remember being this sore after a 70-mile ride in the past).
