Music for the Peace of It

One of the most pleasant things I’ve experienced over the past year or so is the use of Amazon Music. It sucks in one respect (and I may have written about it here long ago) — they screwed it up intentionally where I used to be able to listen to the occasional “free” album in its entirety, but then switched to a version where everything got scrambled unless you paid them. So there I’d be getting into a favorite album, an important part of which is its continuity, when suddenly Amazon would shuffle in an oddball song — sometimes not even by the same group, but just because “we thought you’d like it.”

Knock it off, Amazon.

But I started this out by telling you there is something I like about Amazon Music. They’ve curated some of the best music to relax by around. Seriously. Go to Amazon Music (if you’ve got Prime) and search on “Relaxing Classical.” Or “Relaxing Piano.” And my new favorite: “Best of Instrumental.” You’ll get some incredible playlists if you ask me. Perfect by which to read a book, pray, or just think. Not so “catchy” that it distracts, but so beautiful that it really does take you to a peaceful place.

Try it sometime (with noise-cancelling headphones if you’ve got them). It’s great if you want to get away from it all for a while.
