Saturday 81: Bigger Stone Face

Springtime and planting season. Second best time to be in Korea, and it’s a close second at that (to fall and the harvest). We’d been going south so much lately that I decided it was time to go east to BIG.STONE.FACE. I’d drawn the route sometime last year from my recollection, and I wasn’t thinking much back then — just exploring and seeing if there was a way to new miles out in that area (and there was). But I didn’t remember until yesterday that I stuck a couple of big climbs closer to the end. That, combined with oncoming heat (getting into the 70s and sunny, which tends to be warm on a climb when you’re going significantly slower) kind of wore me out. I think it wore us all out. But still, some absolutely beautiful roads and things to see. I never regret it…

Setting out. We’re cool and happy…
Looks refreshing.
Farmers have been extremely busy lately.
The peaceful, open road…because no one is allowed to play bugles in this area…
But seriously…the peaceful, open road.
Buddha-guy still stands guard at our destination: BIG.STONE.FACE.
Literally, in the middle of a discussion on navigation…then I see Joon taking this picture and had to laugh.
Eumsong has character. We all liked the city.
Again at Eumsong, a Buddhist memorial park(?)
They were in the middle of taking the lanterns down. Buddha’s birthday was just 3 days before this.
Also famous for peppers, as the Pepper Princess can attest.
Gotta love Korea…
Close-up of Albert’s bike bling. He did bike today. He will have biked on any day on which you read this. He bikes every day.
Again, they’re working hard.
Across the bridge.
Did I mention how hard the farmers are working right now?
History in Anseong.
Getting the shot.
Getting the shot…and explaining to Joon how hard it’s gonna be to get up.
Taking a bit of a breather in the shade. We were beat by the end of the ride.

Bonus section one — the art I saw along the way:

If you look closely, you can see me down there creating some art myself (next picture)…
And that’s how it’s done.

Bonus section two — some of the flowers I saw along the way:
