I’ve written recently about how riding with Joon means riding with more friends. It’s a web, really — you see a guy on a bike, and it’s easy to say “Hey, where ya goin’?” I did it just this morning when I was out walking with the grand-boy. And when you ride with Monica, you also get to meet people like Amy from LA and John from Thailand. And it’s always fun.
This weekend’s ride was especially enjoyable because we really dialed it back. Easy roads, easy pace, easy distance. Not a lot of crazy surfaces or ups-and-downs. And the route (which I made up for most of the ride) kept us in position to either press further or make a break toward the finish, so when it was time, I just said to Joon, “I think we’ll head home now,” and that was it. A quick stop at a cafe at the end, and I was back in plenty of time to run to the airport. A relaxing day all around.
But these days aren’t gonna last me much longer. Albert was up in Seoul this weekend, and he posted a picture from the Han River trail going east of Seoul and it’s got me remembering a couple of great rides I did up there with Eric a few years back. I’m a mere “Buy Now” button-push from getting the roof rack I’ve been wanting for quite some time. An impulsive push of that button and I’ll be on my way to adventures elsewhere.
So be on the lookout for something new and farther away…I hope.
