Midweek Ride: Under Construction

I took a little time today to get out. Nothing special. I enjoyed the ride, but not as much as usual. I went through an area I had not visited in a while, and it turns out the whole place is under construction. They’re ripping through the landscape with a few new highways, which can only mean even more development. Interestingly, though, it looks like they’re working to alleviate a lot of the pressure from the West Coast Expressway (the 15) by building a bypass to the bridge that’s stuck at 3 lanes each way. I’ve been there on a weekend, and it isn’t pretty. And I remember it opening all those years ago. I guess the traffic just exceeded expectations.

Still, all of the construction (I crossed sites for at least three separate multilane highways many times) and the midday crap sky made the ride a little less enjoyable. I love finding new things, except major construction that blocks or alters my route. And the thing is, there were no new things but for the construction. Even though I got over five new miles in, I saw nothing that piqued my interest. No new monuments or shrines or country oddities. To tell you the truth, that are is probably played out anyway. I’ve got other places to go, but they’re getting farther away. I’m really seriously considering putting on a hitch and a rack. It may be the only way.

They’re still building up Godeok.
It is spring for sure. I saw dandelions too.
This is one of my favorite roads.
Maybe it’s that all of the decent views were early in the ride…
I’ve got to go this way. Beat up and ominous.
I actually had to carry the bike over part of this.
I usually hit this road very early on a Saturday morning. Turns out that midday on a weekday it’s populated with plenty of trucks. Not fun.
The same highway I climbed over further south. Looks like they’re building an exit here (it’s a tollway).
I guess an old, abandoned farm coop building might be interesting.
Another highway through pretty country.
I’ve been this way a few times — it’s a sharp descent that winds past a hidden house. You can see the new highway through the trees.
Spring is here.
The old bridge at the northwest corner of base, taken from a temporary bridge by which they’re constructing yet another road.
