Thinking back on yesterday’s ride, I’m seeing a glimmer of hope. I’m terribly out of shape and inconsistent on the bike, and I’ve not been able to overcome that yet. Still, when I designed yesterday’s route, I didn’t shy away from a couple of challenging climbs. I assure you though, having done the first couple, I was not a fan. I was the one to suggest to my fellow-riders that we maybe not take the last (and most challenging) one. It came down to the descent immediately prior, and we decided to go for it. This is really not a hard decision at all, since I think we’re all well-experienced in knowing that the payoff more often than not (and it’s not really that close) outweighs the pain.
We were rewarded with some nice views, a nice bit of gravel, and a fun descent. And although I’m pretty sore right now an entire day later, it’s something I’ll not regret. It seems to be the start of my recovery from the holidays…
