Could it be that I’m getting close to picking up a new hobby? I’m just so fascinated with things like an explanation of the paint scheme on German fighters through World War II. I mean, it would be such a geeky thing to say to someone after they’ve put in the effort to build a model, “Hey, you’ve got the wrong paint job there. You model is the 109C-variant, and that didn’t come out until December of 1943. Your color scheme is from 1941 when they were still using cobalt in their paint.”
These are museum-quality arguments here, and I think they’re really cool. My problem though is that I can’t speak for a) how invested I can stay in a hobby like this, and b) how I could convince my wife that constructing a paint booth in the spare room for my models is a good idea. Should I play on the fact that she can smell anything from a mile away, or is it just a doomed cause, painting anything at all in the house. I have a neighbor who I see outside every so often doing just this kind of thing. Maybe I’ll ask him…
