I remember the standard we set this past summer for the timing of our rides: be home before it “feels like” 100. I’m not pining for those days at all…but neither am I enjoying “feels like” 24. Sure, it’s not even that cold yet, and the sun and sky were great today. Still, if we could’ve had a little more time in that 70-degree sweet spot, I’d be able to stomach the cold a bit better.
Nah. I don’t like riding in the cold. And the older I get, the greater my dislike.
Despite the cold, it was a pretty nice day. I toyed with the idea of making it a very short ride, but eventually got so far out that I had no choice but to get in at least 30 miles, which seemed reasonable to me. Ended up with over 35, and that worked out just fine. It helps that Joon lent me his pogies before he went on a vacation to the states. At first, I was wondering just how effective they would be, but now that I’ve got them dialed in, I can’t see a winter ride without them (so I ordered a pair).
We’ve had a few ups and downs recently with the temperatures, and it would be nice if we could squeeze one more summer out of the year; but usually by the end of November, the pleasant days are gone. All I can do is keep on pushing, and make 2024 my next best year.
