Here They Come Again

I was sitting in an office just the other day and noticed the music — some 70s stuff that was pleasant enough, but not the originals. One of the songs was the cover of a Carpenters song. I can’t remember which one, but I remember thinking, “No one can match Karen Carpenter’s voice.”

Karen Carpenter

If you know the Carpenters, you know what I mean. Karen’s voice has been called one of the best in history, and losing her when she still had so much music in her was tragic.

Then just today, I read something else about AI and thought, “If they could load her masters, I bet they could have her singing again.” Her brother Richard, who did a lot of their writing and arranging, is 76 right now. Maybe he could put something together.

But then again, just like we don’t want to raise the Titanic, we should leave Karen Carpenter to the music she recorded. Still, that voice. It was so beautiful and peaceful and rich.

Anyway, these things must come in threes, because I was looking for something on YouTube and up pops Ksenia Buzina with Leonid & Friends, and they’re doing a cover of “Superstar.” Now, Ksenia is the third most beautiful woman in the world, so of course I’ll give her a listen whenever I see her on YouTube. She has a beautiful voice herself, but is it as good as Karen Carpenter’s? Well, no. But she does a pretty good job of it anyway.

Yes, lovely. I think her elocution isn’t as clean as Karen Carpenter’s, maybe a function of singing in a foreign language
