It’s been a while. Back in Texas two weeks ago, unable to ride last week. I wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of a jaunt today…except rain.
Today is one of the days of Ch’useok. This is a once a year opportunity for us to ride unhindered by traffic, and we’d planned on making it our second annual trip to Seoul to lap the palace. I’d hoped that an 0430 start would get us home by noon, but when I woke up at 2:45, it was raining. And the radar didn’t look too promising.
But they said it would be over by 7, but it was over much sooner. Unfortunately, since I fell asleep and woke up at 0530, the trip to Seoul would’ve gone until 2PM, and I didn’t want to do that to my wife.
So we set up to set out at 7 with no real plan in mind. “Where are we going?” “I don’t know.” The good thing about that attitude is that you never go the wrong way. Even when I went off on a bit of a loop looking for a tree (wrong spot — we found it later), it didn’t matter. This is the freedom of the road squared. You’re out there — a good thing — and you don’t care where you are or where you’re going. More good.
It was a great day for a ride…

The flexibility with your plan is such a good metaphor for life and has many other applications…..how very philosophical. Not sure if you’ve done a video previously of mileage, but that is amazing! Cherry character picture with you is hands down the best! It made my day. 🙂
I remember a couple of young ladies that were the queens of using statues in their pictures.
It is not a good thing to be inflexible. Sometimes life’s detours bring us somewhere amazing. If I had a quarter for every time a blocked way on a ride turned into something so much better, I’d have at least $4.25 by now…
