Monday Random: A Brief Detour…

I had a piece nearly ready to go — wrote it last night on the couch with the intent of editing and posting today. But, two things: First, it’s good enough (in my mind) that a little extra ruminating won’t hurt it at all. As a matter of fact, I’ll probably learn even more in the process. Secondly, I just ran into some exciting news: The Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense has been remastered in 4k and will be released at the end of the month in IMAX. If I could, I’d travel some distance to see this. The movie itself was astounding, but to think of seeing it in IMAX? If it’s done right, it’s gotta be better than being there (well, at my age at least).

I’ve heard the ice-breaking question before: if you could attend any concert, any artist, any time, which one would it be? For me, number one would probably be Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon tour. And number two? Talking Heads. Thing is though, only one of them has an IMAX movie coming out these days. I’d say all major artists should consider something like that — filming their works with an eye to providing the concert experience to new generations of fans and the curious. Problem is, though, there are no longer any real artists worth filming.

In any case, I’m glad for the news. I don’t think it’ll be worth seeing on the small screen. But if I ever get the chance, I’ll definitely go see it in a theater. And for those of you who are able to see it in IMAX, please do. For me. And then write to tell me how awesome it was…

Well, we’re only a week or so away from the start of another NFL season. As an owner of the Green Bay Packers, I’m looking forward to it more than I have in the past. Why? Because it’s our first season without an insufferable prima donna under center in a long time. We can actually watch football and enjoy it rather than having the big E (Ego) playing “savior” to the team like he does every year (i.e. get through the year only to lose in the games that count). At least last year he put us out of our misery before the playoffs started by losing the biggest game of the year to end it all. Must’ve gone into it thinking it was the NFC Championship or something.

So the Packers will start the season without a future Hall of Fame quarterback for the first time in over 25 years. Or will they? I’ve got high hopes for Jordan Love, and I think with a good year running this offense — Matt Lafleur’s offense, not the prima donna’s offense — and he’ll turn into a major force. That, along with (hopefully) two first-round draft picks next year to go with draft position that will probably come along with having an off year (plus the future firing of their defensive coordinator (can’t do it fast enough already)), and things are looking up.

Gotta love their chances…

It would only be sweet justice if the Packers met the Jets in the 2025 Super Bowl, where they crush a decrepit Aaron Rodgers who, of course, chokes in the big game and blames it on everyone else. Problem is, in order to get there, he would have to win the AFC Championship, and we know how he is in those games…

Well, the weather has broken here…to some degree. It still hit 90 yesterday, but the sky is high and the rice is going yellow to brown in some fields. I’ve seen quite a bit lying down already this year. I think the overall hot summer with so much rain made for a good growing season. Now they’ve gotta throttle back on the wet so they can take it out before it mildews. The weather is not entirely cooperative though — it rained a bit again this morning around 3 or 4. Sure, it’s cooler, but still horrendously muggy and sticky.

Autumn is my favorite time in Korea. The golden rice; the grapes and apples; the cabbages, onions, and peppers that will be going into this year’s winter kimchi. It’s all coming to a peak within the next month or two. The weather cools and we can get out for longer and later on our rides, too (not that I always want to — I like getting home from a ride, showering, then going to some distant country restaurant with Micha on roads which I may have just cycled that morning). The sky is beautiful, blue, and clear and the air has the smell of the harvest in it. Just thinking of it now has me breathing deeply and imagining. If anyone wants to come visit, I recommend October.

Not yet, but almost.
