Disorienting: “Concatenation”

I enjoy collecting odd words sometimes. Years ago, we made it a kind of game in the office. Anyone who discovered a new word would bring it into the office to post it on our word board. The only rule was that you had to find the it in the course of your regular reading — no fishing for words in a dictionary or anything like that. This is how I learned words like “frass” and “merkin.”

It’s one of the things I like about reading books on Kindle — when you select a word, it gives you the definition, and then you can highlight the word and recover it by reviewing all of the highlights you make in a book. My current reading, One of Ours (the 1923 Pulitzer winner) has given me “lassitude” and “salubrious” so far.

Interesting words then, by nature, grab my attention. So when I saw a clip titled “Concatenation 2,” I had to have a look. “Concatenation” means “a series of interconnected things or events.” If you watch the video, you may see why they called it that.

Enjoy it, learn a new word, and don’t get too disoriented (makes me a bit queasy, actually).
