Saturday 70: T-Rex!

Rain in the forecast this weekend, so we didn’t really want to get very far from home. I mean, if you’re gonna get soaked, you’re gonna get soaked. But if you’re never far from home, you can always cut it short without being too miserable.

Turns out though that the rain wasn’t that cold. The only problem I had was when it picked up for the last hour of the ride, it forced a lot of sweat down into my eyes (as well as completely obscured my vision with all of the drops on the glasses). Even that was tolerable, especially since we were having so much fun.

Albert sent us this route a couple of months ago, so we decided to take it today. The route itself was part of the fun too. While we didn’t do any “destination” riding (where we had a target, like the Ant Hill Monument last week), it was interesting to think about what we were up to — where we were in the route, and being careful not to deviate and ruin it.

In the end, we pulled into the driveway thoroughly soaked, yet happy. A great ride even without the end result.

Only a mile from home — on the way out — and I caught the train…
The view upstream near the northwest corner of base is changing significantly.
Here comes the sun…and we won’t see it for much longer.
Out doing his thing.
Today is actually Buddha’s birthday. We saw a lot of traffic as we were nearing home.
Minor obstacle.
I wonder what they do to make themselves a “No Stress Restaurant.”
Almost home.
The end result. Worth it.

What a beautiful trip. I love the pics. I’ve shifted to walking due to numbness in my hands on long rides. It also happens on long walks, but my survival doesn’t depend on being able to hold into something when I walk. My longest so far is 16 miles in 5 hours. Last couple of weeks I’ve hovered around 100,000 steps per week. I miss the bike, but walking is great too. In fact, for bone density and for weight loss, it’s shown to be superior to riding. I still have to augment with resistance training for upper body and core, and I do stairs for the knees, but the rest is just walking…and it’s working great. We’ll see what happens with the wrists. May be looking at surgery to correct carpal tunnel syndrome. Keep riding Bob – wish I could be there with you brother.
