I’ve always liked Dave Whipple and his Bush Radical YouTube channel. It’s all so easy-going that he’s always got me thinking, “hey, maybe I could do some of this stuff.” I’ve posted some of his (and his wife’s) stuff here before — usually about building an off-grid cabin. I always look forward to their new stuff coming out.
His most recent video is along the off-grid lines, but works even better with a series his wife did a while back on scouting out and buying land. This video is about that, but with advice about finding land with clearly abandoned buildings on it to tip you off that a deal may be possible, even if there’s no sign that the property is for sale. This is interesting to me, too, because I’ve seen situations like this before and wondered. Now, I’m not really in the market anymore. Maybe a bit too old to be investing much time and money in something like this — plus, there’s really not much opportunity in Korea. But, still…maybe in another life I would’ve been legitimately interested in trying to pull something like this off.
In any case, maybe someone else is. If that’s you, you wouldn’t be wasting your time if you listened to some of what Dave Whipple has to say about it…
I always thought John Giddings’ filling station/ice cream shop would be a good candidate. Room for a loom…
