Friday

I was getting ready for bed tonight and remembered that I wanted to share a song today. But first, I’ll follow up a bit on my reading.

I wasn’t too charitable with Wallace Stegner’s Angle of Repose when I wrote about starting it a couple of days ago.. I thought that maybe it was because I had launched into it a bit too soon after finishing Faulkner’s The Reivers. And, having picked it up and started the actual reading in earnest over the past day or two, I think I was right. I was out of sorts from the Faulkner. I’m a bit into Angle now, and I’m really starting to appreciate the writing and the approach. I can’t say much else. It’ll take me a bit of figuring out. I expect it might take some time though. The book is over 550 pages and the writing is such that I’m not thinking it’ll be a quick and easy read. But I do like it, now that I’m separated sufficiently from the last book. Lesson learned, I guess.

It’s been a long and tiring week. Still, I do love the sense of accomplishment I feel when I work through several things and keep the place running smoothly (enough). I’ve been flying solo for the month as my office mate’s been out for a class, so I’m pretty solid busy. It takes a bit out of me, and things are going on all over the place, so there are the occasions where I have to close the door and take a deep breath. Put on some comforting music. And one of my favorites is this song by Brian Doerksen. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it here in the past, but it’s of the quality that makes it well worth repeating.

Have a relaxing Friday, wherever you are…

Toni Morrison received a Pulitzer for Beloved. When I read it years ago (long enough that I had the audio book on cassette), I found it moving. It could be one to consider if you’re looking for a little diversity in authors.
