The Therapeutic Nature of Watch Repair

If I were to tell you that sitting here and watching some guy fix a watch for an hour would be some of the best viewing you’d ever experience, you might think me a bit odd. But then you’d watch it, and you’d know I was right. I know for a fact I’m not the only one who likes this stuff, but of course, that’s because I’ve got such cool sisters. If it isn’t one thing, it’s another. Or another.

And watch repair is one of those things. Of course it helps that Marshall at Wristwatch Revival is so good at capturing the story of what he’s doing. I’d even say he makes it a bit exciting…but you probably wouldn’t believe me.

Unless you actually started watching. You might just like it.

About a year ago he put up a video of what I would consider a dream watch — an Omega pocket watch that he bought for 68 bucks on e-bay for parts. He took it apart, found a couple of broken pieces, replaced them, and now, a beautiful watch. A watch that I’d probably just mount in a bell jar just to look at.

This video pretty much has it all. A large format (pocket watch) that’s easy to see and understand, busted parts and a complicated fix (the balance staff), and a great watch from a famous company. What’s not to like?
