Thanksgiving 52: Magic Valley!

There’s a valley beyond Anseong that’s one of my favorite places. If I could, I’d get a small piece of land up there and put in a little cabin.

Maybe I will.

I call it “Magic Valley.” You enter on a two-lane road that runs up past a dam that holds back a good-sized lake at its mouth. The thing is, then, that the dam and the entire lake kind of cover the entrance. The road, while not the only way in, is the best way. Any other involves some rough work in a car…or on a bike.

A few years ago, I discovered a back way in…or should I say, out. I’ve not come in that way but only left twice now, and since the exit involves a portion of a climb that hits 24 percent, and coming in from the other direction seems a bit rougher, I’d call the whole thing barely accessible in a decent car from that direction.

So of course, riding out is kind of fun. Except for an excess of leaves that hide the roadway and any possible hazards it may have. Still, I’d been planning on making the ride for a while now, and since I wanted to get home a bit earlier, and thus only do about 50 today, it was just the right distance away for me.

Joon was out for the day, and I hadn’t heard from Alex for a while, but Albert was game. We set up to meet down by Anseong IC at 0615. Since it was a work day here in Korea for the Koreans, traffic was a bit dicey at times, but the rendezvous was made, and we set out for Anseong through Farmland (theme park). Overall, it was a pleasant ride. I enjoyed it very much. Would’ve appreciated a cleaner sky, but sometimes it can’t be helped. It’s just that the pictures aren’t quite as good…
