Saturday 77: Worn Out

I don’t know what it was about today, but I’m hoping I’ll sleep like a log tonight. I’m just plain worn out. And the ride shouldn’t have been all that challenging. Less climbing than last week, but 15 miles longer.

Still, the day was beautiful…ish. Great weather, but the air quality was quite poor. Got some decent pictures among the four of us. Yeah. A huge group today, with Alex (who rode with us a couple of weeks ago) and Albert, whom Joon and I have known for a couple of years, but with whom only I had ridden before — and only once. Chris and I ran into him up in Osan during one of our COVID “Bubble” rides, where we rode a lap around the outer edge of the famous Osan Air Base bubble at the height of the scare. Albert rode with us for quite a while (being attached to Humphreys, he wasn’t under the distance restrictions like we were).

To set up today’s route, I just looked at my heatmap and found an open spot to the south — an area around Asan city that we hadn’t passed through. And once we got down there, it was quite beautiful. I couldn’t help but think, though, that the getting there wasn’t the best. And that had nothing to do with me getting a puncture…which we fixed and pumped back up quite easily. It’s just that…well, maybe it’s because I’d covered that territory before. I can’t say that it was all awful. There were some nice roads, and a few good views. Maybe it was the passing a Samsung factory as people were driving to work that had me a bit on edge. Going through a couple of industrial areas for sure.

And I’m tired. I can’t recall my legs being so worn out for a ride that didn’t even hit 80 miles. But then again, yeah, it was nearly 80 miles, so I guess there’s that.

But I’ll spend a little time stretching tonight…and a few minutes with the massage gun…and maybe I’ll feel comfortable enough to get a good night’s sleep. I think I’m tired enough for it…

Polluted skies make for decent views…
The mountains south of Asan are beautiful
Albert’s shot from the same spot is much better.
What a beautiful valley…but again, the air quality…
We came across a trail covered by solar panels.
And a few quiet roads. My wife likes seeing shots like these because she thinks I’m in no danger.
One of Albert’s shots. He likes an easy pace and taking pictures too. Fits right in.
A shot by Alex…and more empty roads.
Taking a break. Three Giant Revolts and a TCR. Mine is the one closest with the beautiful fenders.
Heading for home…
