I called today’s ride “Connect 4,” but I really should have called it “Death on Wheels,” or something along those lines. It was miserable — about the hardest ride I’ve done since my first Century 20-some years ago when I ran out of water and money on the way home and had to limp in, suffering from heat exhaustion. That was in August too, but I don’t think it was nearly as hot then as it was today.
It all started out alright, right around 4:30 AM. Everything’s bearable at 4:30 AM. But by 8, my weather app was telling me that it felt like 91. By 10, I’m sure it was over 100, but I think it best not to check those things. Does not good.
So Joon and I were both wiped out, struggling to get back home, going through water by the bottle, mostly just to spray it on the arms and legs. And I can’t recall feeling this sore and burned out in a long time.
So we’re resolving to get out early and back by 9 or so. At least until the noon temp is back down to feeling like 90 and below. Tomorrow it says “107.” Could be a while.
Anyway, I called the ride “Connect 4” because I covered portions of 4 of my previous long rides — 3 of which I did this year. But none were as hard as this one…

Gonna need to dynamo hub if you keep leaving earlier.
