All I want is to have my peace of mind…

Now, I don’t want to get into the habit of posting a lot of musical musings. Like I’ve said before, they were an easy way out when it came to keeping a streak going and I was just too worn out or distracted to put something up on any particular day. But there are times when I’m honestly drawn to something for some reason — or something strikes my fancy and gets me thinking.

I’ve posted a few times about the rock group Boston’s work — once as recently as just a couple of months ago. Mostly reminiscences, really. I guess we’re drawn to the music that built us when we were young. But there were times when a tune may have been catchy enough rhythmically to not hit me with the words so much back then. Maybe now I actually get it.

Maybe it was like this when I was listening to random music this morning to get my day going. Boston’s “Peace of Mind” came along, and I actually listened to the words, and they had that simple, age-old message that maybe didn’t matter to me 40-some years ago, but now make so much more sense. And then again, there’s the rock ethic of the 70s. In any case, I’ve never been much for the message — never got so immersed in a desire to push forward and advance myself that I forgot about living. But still, it’s a decent message…

Now if you’re feelin’ kinda low ’bout the dues you’ve been paying
Future’s coming much too slow
And you wanna run, but somehow you just keep on stayin’
Can’t decide on which way to go
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I understand about indecision
But I don’t care if I get behind
People livin’ in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind

Now you’re climbin’ to the top of the company ladder
Hope it doesn’t take too long
Can’t you see there’ll come a day when it won’t matter
Come a day when you’ll be gone
Ohh, ohh

I understand about indecision
But I don’t care if I get behind
People livin’ in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind

Take a look ahead
Take a look ahead, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Now everybody’s got advice, they just keep on givin’
Doesn’t mean too much to me
Lots of people out to make believe they’re livin’
Can’t decide who they should be
Oh, oh

I understand about indecision
But I don’t care if I get behind
People livin’ in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind

Take a look ahead
Take a look ahead
Look ahead
