Again with the Korean Food

Today was market day (the 19th), so we took a walk. I’ve written recently about how much I like the market days here. But there’s something extra that usually comes with our trips — grabbing some street food while we’re down there. Today, we sat down in a 분식 restaurant — a place of simple, cheap food. I ordered the 만두라면 (mandu ramyon) and Micha got a couple of rolls of 김밥. And of course, we shared.

The food is decent enough — nothing spectacular; but quick, cheap, and pretty good if you like that kind of thing — which I do. But I like it for more reasons than the taste. I like it for the experience. The place is usually jumping — noisy, bustling. The “kitchen” — which is just on the other side of the high counter — is quite interesting to watch. And the workers have it down like a ballet. Everyone has a job, right down to the woman who swooped in on our table the moment we stood up to call out “check for table four!” and clean up our dishes.

Even after all of these years, it’s still such an interesting experience. You shouldn’t miss it if you get the chance.

Right across from the Nonghyup Bank.
The kitchen is right there.
Kimbap station by the door. People can just pop in and grab a couple of rolls.
