It feels like it’s been a tough start to the season this year. I’m kind of working into it, and these past three weekends have yielded rides of 64, 67, and today, 76 miles; so you’d think I was on target. And maybe I am. Hey — I suppose if I were to do 64 miles next week, I’d probably think nothing of it. Two weekends ago, it was a stretch.
But I don’t think I’m going to shoot for 80 next weekend just so 76 seems easier.
Actually, today’s ride was supposed to be a 70-miler to the east, but I took a look at the forecast this morning and it looked like it would be winds out of the east to start, swinging around completely to the west by about 10. So a ride to the east would have meant headwinds the whole way. On the other hand, starting to the west had the potential of tailwinds the whole way.
It didn’t turn out that way, but the wind really was a non-factor today. It was sunny and warmed up well enough after a bit of a chill early on. And, although there was a bit of tiredness near the end — and some moments where the legs burned a bit — there were also moments where I was feeling pretty good. Overall, it was a great ride. But still…tough.
We followed a route from last year actually. I checked the tide chart, and Jebudo was open from about 6:15 AM until after 2 PM, so it was as good a day as any for the repeat. We really enjoyed the Jebudo ride last year (in early August), so I was expecting a good ride today.
And it was…
