Not Good, Then Good, Then Pretty Good…

I was a bit fearful when I started today’s ride and on the first climb I was thinking, “blech!” Just wasn’t feeling it. As a matter of fact, just over five miles in I told Joon “let’s stop at the next CU and get a bit of pastry.” Just had to get some kind of fuel. It’s a crap shoot though — who knows how I’m gonna feel after a bit of pastry on the road…especially since we discovered our favorite cream bread comes in Chocolate! Thankfully, Joon was good with splitting one with me. These are just too rich to wolf a whole one down and get back on the road.

Chocolate cream and chocolate chunks in the bottom layer. Even only half had me questioning my choices not long after, but I made it OK.

So, the title: Not Good, Then Good, Then Pretty Good explains it fine. It got progressively better as the ride went by, and the last 30 of the 42 miles were…like I said, “pretty good.”

The destination for today’s ride was a cafe I’d heard about near the east end of the West Coast Bridge — Main Street Cafe. It looked good enough that Joon and his wife went back for an early dinner (a “so-so” burger), and Micha and I got there in time to get dessert and coffee with them. Turns out it’s a pretty interesting place (both outside and in) — overwhelmingly interesting. The baked goods were passable — better than average, but not fantastic. It was just fun to sit and chat with friends. And there was a lot to see.

Taking my order. The paintings all look realistic through the lens and at first glance.

The whole ride ended up being a success, and the evening with Micha, Joon, and his wife was icing on the cake. Things are slowly getting back to reasonable…

A rural setting along the way.
A wrong turn took us through that schoolyard behind Joon in this picture. We walked through here because the ground was still quite soggy from yesterday’s rain. And get into that clay to Joon’s left and your tires are guaranteed clogged.
Had a lot of fun with wall art today…
The Grandfather Tree is doing well. Getting ready for the spring.
A good day on the road. Almost home…
