Monday Random

Another one of those days. Not because it’s Monday. I’ve never minded Mondays. Just gotta step out of the routine every so often.

So what better day for some random?

Here’s an interesting fact (to me, at least): I haven’t set my alarm for a couple of months. I used to use an Amazon echo. Every night, I’d go to bed and say “Alexa, set an alarm for 5 AM,” and she’d come back with “Alarm set for 5 AM tomorrow morning.” But, after all these years, I finally figured out that my alarm never woke me up. I was always having to cancel it. So I just decided to stop setting it.

And I’m still up before 5 every day…unless I want to sleep in until 6 (like I did this weekend). Then I just go back to sleep and get up by 6.

It’s been fun.

Tonight’s soundtrack as I write is Pink Floyd’s album, Wish You were Here. I’ve already called it a great album here, so I’ve not got much else to say. Other than the song “Have a Cigar” is one of only two Pink Floyd songs not sung by a member of the band. I’ve read that Roger Waters regretted it later, but I really think it fits the theme of the song having it sung by an outsider — adds to the whole “slimy music exec” feel.

I also think the whole album contains Gilmour’s best guitar work. And the song “Wish You Were Here” is incredible.

I’m fairly certain we’re less than a month from starting up the BCFBs. Waiting for the combination of the temps getting up around 50 (April starts with an average low of 42 and ends at 53) and the sun coming up at around 6 (which will happen on 14 April — sunrise this morning was 06:36). Really looking forward to the sunrises — one of the best parts of the BCFBs. Also looking forward to strengthening the legs again for the longer rides. I did 42 miles yesterday and it wasn’t bad. Still, I think it’ll be a couple of long rides before I start getting used to the 70-80-mile rides again.

I did see my first dandelion yesterday.

It’s also time for me to limber up the clippers and take off the dog’s winter coat. I’m no professional when it comes to cutting her hair, but I get the job done. I’m sure I’ve saved hundreds of dollars in grooming over the years. Micha and I have a system. I take off most of it, and she finishes up the fine work around the face and paws. And Somi has some very sensitive paws.

Getting shaggy

And of course, it’s been a while, but I can’t end a Random without a haiku:

Coffee starts my day
Eastward ride as the sunrise
Paints the morning sky
