I firmly believe that last year’s biking season was such a success because I was lighter and healthier throughout the summer. I owe that to last February’s Green Smoothie Detox and subsequent better eating.
Well, as the title says, “here we go again.” I spent the entire winter gorging on everything I could get my hands on — and most of it horrible as far as health. And I’ve felt the effects. In addition to gaining 15 pounds, I’m just not as energetic. Some of that is coming from the fact that I’m not nearly as active. The BCFBs stopped nearly 4 months ago, and my weekend rides are lucky to hit 40, let alone the 70 or 80 I was doing at the height of last summer.
I’ve also been going through a bit of stress with a major project, and that’s lead to a lot of hurried and stress eating. But that’s drawing to a close, and the new season is on its way. I know I’m only a couple of weeks from a 100k ride to warm me up for the year, and as soon as I get my legs back under me, I’ll be shooting for those 80-milers again. And probably a century a month starting in April. I really can’t wait to get out (and with my new toe warmers, maybe that’ll be earlier than usual).

I say all of that to say, the second annual Green Smoothie Detox started today. I’m about 15 pounds lighter than when I started it last year, and I’m used to the recipes and discipline it takes, so I’m looking forward to the result after ten days. I’m thinking right about then it may have warmed up enough to really hit the road. And I’ve timed it to come off of the detox by next week Friday, so I’d say the real season starts right about March 5th.
Stay tuned…
