Johnny Fever is dead.
Howard Hesseman, who played the character on WKRP in Cincinnati died of complications from colon surgery on 29 January. If ever an actor was made for a part, it was Hesseman for Fever. If you grew up in the 70s, you know what I mean. The attitude, the look, the hair. He was perfect for it.
I was looking around for something quick tonight (been struggling with my internet today) when I found this clip that included not only Johhny Fever, but Johnny Fever playing “Dogs” by Pink Floyd. The joke for Floyd fans, and I think I’ve mentioned it here before, is that “Dogs” is over 15 minutes long. It’s definitely what a DJ that’s “resting his eyes” for whatever reason would be playing.
But of course, it’s Pink Floyd. So the whole song is well worth it, as is the whole album (Animals. Not a famous work, but a masterpiece in my opinion). Take some time and give it all a listen…
Animals is my favorite! Bought it on 8track when it was first released, played constantly in my Vega.
it is definitely most excellent. i can’t understand why people didn’t really take to it, except that it could never get any airtime because all of the songs were too long for radio…which is why the WKRP clip is kind of funny…
