I listened to some Pink Floyd today. Now there’s a group that went through phases. Their early stuff — not something I got into. Then along comes a streak where they put out Dark Side of the Moon (73), Wish You Were Here (75), Animals (77), and The Wall (79). All incredible albums, although Animals doesn’t get its due. Probably because 10-minute songs don’t get a lot of air time.
Another group that went through some significant phases was Genesis. Their fans probably fall into two categories — the early and the late. Some might separate them into Peter Gabriel Genesis and Phil Collins Genesis, but fans that have followed them know there was an overlap of decent work — after Gabriel left, but before Collins turned the band into a crap-fest. They had two pretty good albums in there right after Gabriel left (both in 1976). I quite enjoy A Trick of the Tail. “Dance on a Volcano” is a great song that came to mind today for some reason. I’ll probably turn the whole album on in the background at work tomorrow, but for now, I’ll just share the song with you, and maybe it’ll work for you too…
Shame. I like Phil Collins.
