I remember the first time I tried menudo. I was in San Antonio visiting a Hispanic family and it as one of the dishes they served for dinner…and I loved it.
To some, menudo can be a bit adventurous. I kind of got the feeling that the friend with whom I was visiting didn’t care for it much. Cow stomach just wasn’t his thing. But I’d lived in Korea long enough that I’d become accustomed to all kinds of weird stuff. There are entire stores devoted to the selling of “parts” — anything but what you might consider a good cut of meat. Can’t think of much more appetizing than pig rectum…and yes, that’s a thing.
Today, Micha suggested Haejangguk — better known to some as “hangover soup” — for dinner. I was good with it, and even good when she ordered the Yangpyeong variety, which turns out to be chock full of “parts” and congealed blood.

And it was just fine…although it certainly takes getting used to.
