Can’t do just 40…

This morning I saw opportunity. With most everyone with and for whom I work off for the next two days, I decided to extend my typical BCFB a bit. Should’ve been easy — put in the miles, then maybe get in by 8 for a full day’s work.

Except it wasn’t. When I left home before five, I thought, “35, maybe 40.” Went light — no sunscreen, no hiney glide (Lisa’s name for chamois cream), no heart-rate monitor, only one bottle of water. Clear glasses. But when the time came to make the call, I turned right instead of going straight. OK then. 50. Another right turn. Well, then we’ll see where I land. And if I’m close enough to 60, I may as well put in the extra bit to hit 100km (just a bit over 62 miles).

I’ve written here before how 100km used to be a big deal for me. Now I’m doing over 110 every weekend (my Saturday 70’s). Did that just two days ago (120km actually). So 100km is less than a deal at all anymore. Like I told Joon — a century is the new 100km for me. And I’ve done two of those this year already, so I’ve gotta wonder what’s next? Can’t be much actually. In all honesty, it’s the time it takes that really holds me up. Sure, 100 miles isn’t a walk in the park, but the fact that it takes me nine hours pretty much finishes my day for me. And I’m not really into going faster. Part of the fun of it is stopping every so often. For pictures. For pastries. For rest and a chat. To say I was actually somewhere and not just passing through thoughtlessly. This is what makes the memories.

So today started with a typically beautiful early autumn morning. 100km. Pancake brunch. And late enough that I ended up just taking leave to cover it.

It was a good day finished off with Micha’s LA galbi. I should sleep well tonight…

Typical morning sky, but accentuated by the towers that ruin every mountain view
Almost fall. I loved this little road by the river.
The morning sun illuminates the landscape with an interesting light.
I still don’t know what this is…and I’ve seen it from all sides now
So close to harvest
Cool
This persimmons tree is full
Almost home. Ran into Steve and he was kind enough to take a picture.
