Recommendation: Paul Baloche

I listen to music on occasion, just to clear my mind. It’ll be on in the background. It’ll pick me up. I’m by no means an expert. I can’t tell you much, but I’ve got a wide range of likes. The only thing I really absolutely can’t stand is anything done with autotune. Period.

And, while I’m not a huge fan of CCM (Christian Contemporary Music); mainly because of it’s lack of imagination, repetitiveness, and “Jesus is my boyfriend” syrup; some of it can be tolerable, as long as you understand that, in many cases, it’s far from theologically sound. Sure, put it on in the background. It won’t kill you.

There are a couple of artists, though, that border on pretty decent. They’re not CCM — their purpose is actual worship. They’re uplifting and not so incredibly pop-oriented that they’re almost utterly meaningless. Brian Doerksen is one of my favorites here. I love a lot of his stuff. But after listening to his music pretty regularly, I needed a change, so decided to randomly pick something else (I listen on Amazon Prime music to a lot of free stuff). That’s when I found Paul Baloche.

I’d heard of him before, long ago when I used to buy Christian compilation CDs just to get an occasional good song. So when I saw his album, God of Wonders, I decided to give it a listen.

And it turns out I really like it. The whole thing, actually. Sure, he might fall into repetitiveness on occasion, but overall, his music is uplifting and worshipful. It’s actually pretty good stuff to put on in the background, and maybe even to which you can do a little praise.

Listen to it. I hope it gives you a little encouragement…
