I’ve long been in the habit of carrying a handkerchief on my person. I just can’t figure out why more people don’t. A handkerchief is one of the most practical pieces of equipment someone can carry.

Beyond the common use of wiping one’s nose, a handkerchief can be useful for wiping up other messes. It can be used to tie something in a small bundle, or wrapped around something as a handle. You can use it to clean your glasses, or a window, or to wipe out the inside of a cup.
I’ve fashioned a handkerchief into a bandana and worn it under my helmet when cycling, and often used it to wipe the sweat out of my eyes.
And of course, in a pinch, if you’re out and about and have an emergency that requires toilet paper that you just don’t have, you can use it for that too…although it’s up to you whether you’d ever use it for anything else afterwards.
If all of that is not enough, just remember that handkerchiefs are environmentally friendly too. They don’t require the destruction of trees that alternatives do, and they don’t fill up landfills.
The handkerchief is an all-around winner in my book. I hope that someday people catch on and start using them.

This is absolutely correct, and yet, even better. HHG was a work of fiction. This is real-life.
