It’s that time again…and I’m quite happy about it.

Welcome back, BCFB.

I resolved last night when I went to bed that I would set the alarm for 4, and if it was over 50 when I got up, I’d go out for the year’s first BCFB ride. So when I woke at 3 and checked the weather to see an expected 51 at 4, I was excited.

And I wasn’t disappointed. Even hitting a crack in the road and getting a flat less than 5 miles into the ride didn’t entirely dampen my spirits. Even coming home and finding that my wheel now appears to be out of round hasn’t concerned me much (other than it may prevent me from getting out again in another couple of days if I don’t figure it out — and I’m confident I’ll figure it out). An early-morning ride like this just cleans the soul and starts the day like no other. I honestly can’t figure out why more people don’t think to do it.

Oh well. Their loss.

Got the flat at the far north point — and this forced me to change my route to stay closer to home.
The road is mine. The sun is hinting at its rising.
Flooded rice paddies make for spectacular pictures.
The sky changes color, but the sun won’t be up for another 30 minutes.
And now it comes up over the hills.
