A quick follow-up to a post I put up a couple of days ago (Good News and Bad News).
I had a loose cassette on my back wheel and it was rattling when I hit bumps. I tightened it down and took it out and it seemed a little better, but during last night’s test ride for my new bib shorts, it started rattling again.

I knew the fix for that was probably a spacer on the hub, but I didn’t have one thin enough (and it has to be metal to fit up against the wheel without cracking). So tonight on the way home from work I stopped by the bike store under the bridge (I call it the “Troll” for that reason) and explained the problem. The guy digs in a parts drawer, pulls one out and hands it to me. “How much?” I ask. “No charge.”

He knows I’ll come back for something else. I’ve been in there plenty already.
So I get home, put it on the wheel, and it works beautifully. Just have to re-index the gears and I’ll be ready to go tomorrow morning bright and early…if the air quality is reasonable.
